The following is a posting I sent to our Happeneur group to help them build their first SSS site. SSS stands for Squeeze – Survey – Service. It is our proprietary tool for helping people to monetize their passion.
In discussing with Mike and Jackie why it is taking people so long to put together the content for their passion site, we came to several conclusions.
Problem: People struggle with defining their passion.
Solution: Ask yourself “What do I enjoy doing in my free time? What am I good at? What comes easy for me? What do I enjoy sharing with others? What would I do if money and time were not an issue?”
Problem: People are afraid that they may not hit on the one true passion to begin so they drag their feet waiting to be inspired to act on their true passion, whatever that is.
Solution: You will seldom get your driving passion on the first pass. So just do anything to get started. Think of a hobby you enjoy, be it watching soap operas, baseball, fishing, flying kites, or stamp collecting and begin your SSS site with that.
After you have built 5 to 7 or more sites you will begin to focus in on what truly motivates you long term, the thing you were meant to do to add value to the universe.
The point is, you will seldom get it right the first time, and only by learning the process and doing it over and over will you finally “get it”. If it takes you 12 attempts at getting what you really want to do, we will help you with 12 SSS sites. You just need to start.
Problem: I don’t know what to write about.
Solution: Start by listing headlines or topics related to your interest. List those in order of what you like the best, i.e. what screams out at you to write about. If you don’t like writing, then record a short narrative and then transcribe that. You do not need to come up with 8-10 articles. Do just three to start and they can be as little as 200-250 words long. However, for posting your article on various sites to help drive traffic, 400 to 500 words is better.
Add to those three a “welcome” article, which thanks them for subscribing to your newsletter and a brief overview of what they can expect. Finally add a “Thank you” article thanking them for having been part of your list and let them know that you would like to keep in touch with them.
Remember, your first SSS site is just a practice to get your toes wet. The second one will be to get your feet in the water. As you adjust to the water temperature, you can go deeper into the water until you reach a point where it is easier to just swim.
This article is 513 words long and it did not take me much time at all to write. So relax and have some fun. That is what it’s all about anyway.
