Is a college degree necessary to have a good life?

I just read a blog article on the ResumeBear.com blog site. It talked about the need for people to consider trade schooling as an alternative to college.

The following is my thoughts on the subject of getting a college education.

The great miss-perception of education is that you need a 4-year degree to be successful and therefore happy.  Actually, it is now more like you need a master degree to be a success.

My advice is to not go to college unless you have a definite goal in mind of what you want to do with your life and that the goal requires further directed education.

Too many people go to college because they have been programmed to believe that is what they should do after high school.

Trade schools are a great alternative for many people and they will be happier in life when they actually align their work with what they enjoy.

In fact, I will go so far as to say for many people it is possible to get a great education and build a successful life style around what can be learned on the Internet.

This does require a more disciplined mind to set up a study program and follow through with it.  However, the end result will be more than worth the effort.

If you can find a mentor or a mastermind group who can support you during your self-study venture your success and happiness factor will be even greater.
